World of Warcraft Review: Triple Experience is HaX July 29, 2009

So thanks to chan and jeffizzle, I entered THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT. I linked accounts with chan and we began to abuse the triple experience system. It’s so fast that as soon as you kill the first boar you’re already level 2. So getting the first level litterally takes like 5 seconds. I didn’t really have any idea what I was doing, I just taking intructions from chan. I even took all his addons that he had as well, like Carbonite, TBag, MoneyFu, XPerl and Bartender. I didn’t what they were call at the time, all I knew that it was a much better looking interface that the original one. Well Carbonite helped a lot, I didn’t have to read anything, just had to follow directions that’s it, so simple, made leveling quicker I suppose.

So apparently, if you donate $25 or more to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society, then you will in line to have a chance at winning free subscription for life for WoW. Courtesy of Blizzard employee Katherine Allen.
Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, if you don’t win, your still donating to a good casuse. And if you win, you get something extra, you get to play World of Warcraft FOREVER, for FREE.

The Father of MUD’s Comments on WotLK December 2, 2008

While browsing massively.com, I noticed a certain article that caught my eye. The father of MUD’s, Richard Bartle, commented on his experiences with the new wow expansion. He seems to have a rather pessimistic view regarding WoW, however one thing caught my attention.
He seems to be rather displeased with a certain quest, The Art of Persuasion. He does not like the idea of torturing a prisoner. He was complaining that there was no other option to the quest such as saying no. While a lot of the comments on massively.com regarding this post were not in his favour, I sort of know where he’s coming from. (more…)

When it comes to the storyline of games, I do believe that there needs to be some. But I also feel there’s a time and place.
RPG games are just that. ROLE playing games. Those games are “allowed” in my books to have some story. However…. balance must be made to make them short enough, and convey the story well.
Shooter games… I’m sorry, but you are there to blow people up, not watch a drama. Even watching people play Metal Gear Solid 4 was bugging me. This goes with any other action type game like driving games, sports games, fighters, etc… I’m playing them for the ACTION, not for the story.
Timing and coordination games don’t deserve too much story either. These are the games that can be picked up and played just to waste 5-10 minutes. Such as Mario, or Guitar Hero. They are also games that may require a lot of practice to master. So to the developers: Please, stop putting stories in these… 20 min cut scenes just ruin the “quick time sink” factor of these games.
All in all, it is nice to have the general public play games. It makes the hobby more socially accepted. Hopefully those “Video games will rot people’s minds” newscasts will slowly fade away like they did for television. That’s right folks, people used to say way back then the same things about television that they do about gaming.
The best way to combat this problem would be to make the coveted “Insane” mode that actually poses a bit of a challenge. World of Warcraft has incorporated this into some of their raids, as well as Xbox with their achievement system (eek! WoW copied that too…). Guitar Hero also featured the dreaded “Dragon Force” song.
Ah yes! I almost forgot to introduce myself! My name is Lyrah and I will be blogging here too. I may be busy the next couple of weeks with exams but I will be here regularly bringing WoW news (with a hunter slant).
EDIT: MGS4 is not actually a shooter it is “TACTICAL ESPIONAGE ACTION” you don’t actually need to kill anyone, and it is a great movie… I mean game… And yes folks, we now have not 1 but 3 gamer chicks posting. -chan

Enter the Lich November 22, 2008

Unlike my counterparts I play WoW… Before any judgements are made I have a valid reason…. I have no life and my school is on strike so i have a lot of time… Anyways thought I am a bit late on the WoW:WotLK review train I figured I would do a quasi-weekly review of whats new and neat with the game or random WoW knowledge that may or may not be useful to you all.
This Week: Enter the DEATH KNIGHT
So yea the most anticipated update in the new expansion if the introduction of the Death Knight Class. For all of you who don’t know what a Death Knight is, they are:
The fearsome death knight, World of Warcraft’s first Hero class, is not your average adventurer seeking to prove his or her worth on Azeroth’s fields of battle. No longer servants of the Lich King, they begin their new calling as experienced, formidable adversaries, heavily armed and armored and possessing an arsenal of deadly and forbidden magic learned in the Lich King’s thrall. [Blizzard]
The Death Knights are essentially those heroes who have walked a similar path to the tragic hero Prince Arthas who fell into the control of the Lich through the corruption of his pure heart and love for his country. So anyways the game play from Lich has changed very little from that of its predecessors but one major improvement I have seen is the story direction and how it is alot more involving for the player (at least as a Death Knight).
But yea, I’ll post more about my experience as I play on but all in all it has been a good start.
EDIT: The ball is in your court Brian… lol
