Un-Twitter in Canada November 30, 2008

For those of you who Twitter and live in Canada, you may have noticed that, disappointingly, the option of having Tweets sent to your mobile device via SMS is no longer available.

According to the official Twitter blog, their contract with Canadian wireless carriers has become too expensive for operations. I have a sneaking suspicion the conversion rate might have a part in this, but what do I know? I’m not an econ or business major.

Personally, I’ve only ever used the outgoing to update my Twitter using the 21212 short-code since I don’t like to be spammed with random text messages to my phone, but it still is a little disappointing that the option is no longer there at all. After all, the ability to receive updates on a mobile is one of the best features of using Twitter.

Hopefully in the near future, Twitter will be able to come to an agreement with the Canadian carriers and get this feature back into place.

As a follow-up to chan’s post about the noob-effect, here’s what I have to say about what’s going on in the video game industry these days:

The Wii has really revolutionized the gaming industry. Well, less revolution and more redirected the industry. The industry used to be about making games that were for the hardcore gamers. But now, thanks to Nintendo, the world realizes that the casual market is where approximately 65% of the market is. This means that if video game companies want to make money, their targets should be aimed there. This has completely left the hardcore gamers and even more of the semi-hardcore gamers left for dead. As shown from VG Cats, with most of the first party “hardcore” games already out in the market (Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid, Mario Galaxy) what is there actually left? Animal Crossing =_=?

So something fashion-wise for the ladies out there, the CLIFF Autumn/Winter 2008 – 2009 Trends here

I’ll be leaning towards the “On The Move” and “Dark Fiction” colour palettes for my wardrobe most likely. (not that i’m a fashionista and have money to spend on such things of course =_=;)

Also something to look forward to, PANTONE’s Colour Trends for Spring 2009 (picture to your left  <–) Nice and bright.

You can see more about the spring fashion trends here

(and a heads up, both links are PDF format)

I’m really liking Nanette Lepore’s sketch, along with Rachel Roy and Yigel Azrouël. Although I highly doubt if I’d actually wear those dresses anywhere
; _ ;

I suggest taking a peek at the sketches, if anything for the arty side of them 🙂

So to talk about a movie that IS being released on  December 12, 2008, we look towards Keanu Reeves’ next film; The Day the Earth Stood Still. This film is a remake of the 1951 movie directed by Robert Wise and starring Michael Rennie. Both the 2008 and 1951 films are based off of Harry Bates’ short story “Farewell to the Master“. Keanu will be playing the part of a visitor from outer space. you can read the synopsis of the story HERE

While the 1951 movie used a man dressed as a robot to play the part of Gort, Klattu’s (Keanu Reeves) travelling companion, who is also “a member of a race of super-robot enforcers invented to keep the peace of the galaxy and will destroy the Earth if provoked”; the 2008 film looks to be abit more in line with following the original short story’s ideas.  Using today’s technology we can look forward to Gort being a big black cloud of dust and what not that is able to destroy buildings, etc. Can anyone say Lost

Anyways, haven’t read the book yet, but you can check out the trailer:

Street Fighter Apparently there’s a possibility of Street Fighter-themed costumes that may become available as DLC for Little Big Planet. If so, those oddly likable Sackboys and -girls have suddenly gotten a lot more awesome. They’re already awesome to start with too. What does that make it?
