The Hobbit movie produced by the renowned Peter Jackson and directed by Guillermo del Toro, has been rumoured to be delayed. Originally set to start filiming in the new year, the start of production was said to been postponed until 2010; resulting in the release date to be pushed back to 2012.

This rumour is NOT true, as stated by this site:

See more below.

Theonering.net has taken it upon themselves to confirm that the rumours about The Hobbit being delayed until 2012 are indeed false. This was confirmed by talking to Guillermo del Toro himself. Thanks go to Theonering.net for confirming that this rumour was false, as well to Michael Regina that gave our site a heads up.

The Hobbit will be a 2 part movie, with the first part scheduled to be released winter of 2012 and the second part to be released the following year at the same time.

Sir Ian McKellen has officially signed on to play Gandalf and Andy Serkis is said to be filling in the role of Gollum once again. Viggo Mortenson has said that he may be playing a role in the movie if asked. Mortenson stated no one has approached him yet, and that if he were to be in The Hobbit, it would be in second part of the movie, not the first.

Del Toro promises creatures and puppets on the scale of Hellboy 2 and intends to focus on creatures that weren’t prominently featured in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

“We will be pushing the goblin kingdom. We will be pushing Smaug, the Spiders of Mirkwood. We will be pushing them to the edge of technology where we will fuse animatronics and CGI into a seamless new art form in creating creatures.”

“You will see some mind-boggling mixture of CGI / Puppetry like never before.”
